The Copthorne Cardiff Hotel. Located just 5 miles away from Cardiff city centre, a perfect location for this tour. All bedrooms are ensuite and have television, telephone, hairdryer and tea & coffee making facilities. The hotel has a lift.
Monday. Depart from your home area in the morning travelling to Wales, arriving late afternoon at the Copthorne Cardiff Hotel. 4 nights stay– dinner, bed and breakfast.
Tuesday. Our excursion today takes us to the family-run Blaenafon Cheddar Company. Their award-winning cheese is matured 300 feet below ground in coal mines of the Brecon beacons giving their cheeses a unique distinctive flavour. We enjoy a talk and tasting. Afterwards, we will travel the short distance to Abergavenny. Here there are independent shops and a famed market hall where traders will be displaying produce and crafts from the region. In the afternoon we journey to the Royal Mint Experience at Llantrisant where we can learn about how the coins we use every day are made.
Wednesday. This morning we travel to the market town of Cowbridge where you are free to explore at leisure. We recommend a visit to the Physic Garden with its glorious display of medicinal plants and herbs that would traditionally have been used for healing, cooking and dyeing fabrics. In the afternoon we journey to Glyndwr Vineyard, Wales’s oldest winery. We will enjoy a guided tour where we will gain a detailed overview of their wine-making process and also have the opportunity to meet the resident Llamas. Afterwards, we enjoy a wine tasting, accompanied by a platter of local foods.
Thursday. Our day takes us north-east to the small village of Pant where we board the Brecon Mountain Railway, one of the Great Little Trains of Wales. We enjoy a scenic ride through the Brecon Beacons National Park, travelling through Ponsticilli, along the length of the Taf Fechan Reservoir before climbing to Torpantau and the summit of the original line. Following our train journey, we enjoy lunch in Brecon before making the journey to Penderyn Distillery, home to the most famous whisky in Wales. Here you will enjoy a guided tour of the distillery followed by a tasting of some of the renowned whisky.
Friday. After breakfast, we leave and begin our journey home.
